Wright-Ryan constructed this striking residential compound, including a main house, guest cottage and workshop, on a remote, uninhabited island accessible only by boat. All construction materials were delivered by landing craft. We laid a submarine cable to bring power and telephone lines to the site from the mainland.
Using a structural steel frame and structural insulated panels in all three structures allowed for minimal contact with the ground, and therefore minimal impact on the site, as the owner had requested. The interior recreates the care, efficiency and craftsmanship of a shipbuilder, reflecting the owner's lifelong passion with the nautical world. The home received a design distinction award from the Maine Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and was featured in Boston Globe Magazine.
