Ocean’s Edge, by Wright-Ryan

A breath of new life for a grand Maine home

When the current owners saw this home, they fell immediately in love.  It’s easy to see why.  The main house, designed by renowned Maine architect John Calvin Stevens, is perched stately atop the rocky Maine shoreline with magnificent views of Casco Bay from Yarmouth to Portland.  The owners, a busy working couple with two young children, wanted to breathe some life into the stately old home and weren’t exactly sure what they would get themselves into with a major renovation.

They called Wright-Ryan and Gulfshore Designs to begin working on renovations to the first floor and part of the second floor.  They also decided to add a guest house with a gardening room and patio with landscaping.  The guest home design incorporates many of the features of the original home such as the window eyebrows and turret with a spiral staircase and views of the ocean.

A key to the first floor renovations was opening up the dark, small kitchen.  By carefully moving walls, so not to take too much space from the formal living area, the kitchen is now bright and modern with an eat-in nook and wide views of the ocean.
